ESL

Teachers from ESL and all teachers need to know about culture in difference places. In addition, they should know how cultures affect communication especially in our classes. We as teachers should know our students, (their background) also know that individual students bring distinct learning styles to the classroom because differences between students and reading and writing will affect classroom pedagogy.

Around the word people have difference taboos, culture, dressing, and others. Some of them are mentioned below.

Taboo

Religion
It is because in the United States is generally known as a melting pot of people from all over the world. This wide variety of people bring with them not only their belongings but their religion

Abortion
The topic of abortion can be very emotional for some people. There can be strong opinions on both sides of this issue. It is normally not brought up in casual conversations, and it is us beliefs. Taboo to ask women if they have ever had one.

When I was living there, I knew a teenager (16 years old) that had already two abortions, but she did not talk about it.

Pedophilia
Taking pictures of and exposing one's private parts to a child. These acts are seen as morally reprehensible, and pedophiles are often ostracized by communities. Normally this emotional issue is seen as taboo in a casual conversation or even as part of a comedy act.

Incest
Incest, defined as intimate relations between two people who are closely related to each other, is generally not a topic for casual conversation. It is commonly viewed as a morally wrong behavior and not only a taboo in America, also her and across the world.

Race
Someone’s race can be seen as a taboo topic in the United States. Even though such words or phrases may be a part of pop culture and I think here is the same.

Most of those tendencies, beliefs, and taboos are around the word, but every country have different point of view. Every place even though inside the country has different belief and cultures. For example, egalitarianism can be the same in most places, but problem orientation can be very different.

Other important thing is the differences between writing and oral communication. Between spoken and writing communication are lot of difference and sometime learning languages seem obvious: babies acquire their first languages orally without effort, while school children must be taught to write. Speaking most often share some background, feedback is immediate and whose responses we can predict, writing more often seems to be a monolog, with the writer attempting to identify or create an audience, with only self-provide feedback. (Pedagogical issues in ESL writing.)

1.Speakers tended to operate with a narrower ranger of lexical choice than writers.
2.Speakers used fewer intonation units than writes.
3.Speakers used substantially fewer prepositional phrases and prepositional phrases sequences than writers.
4.Speakers used significantly more coordination than writers.
5.Spoken sentences often consist of one or two words, while other spoken chained sentences are sometimes 100 words or more, in contrast, written sentences show a relatively normal distribution of sentence lengths centered around mean of 24 words.

In general, written language often exhibits more detachment and a relatively greater degree of formality. Also, written prose usually has greater lexical, diversity, longer sentences length, and more subordination

What students need in this description is that they should have different opportunities to speak and put in practice they vocabulary, and improve their language.
